Join me for my complimentary web show to kick off: “Where’s Your Book?”

July 5th, 2010 by Sherry Sexton

Dear amazing friends and future authors,

I hope you will join me for this free web show where I will share my personal tips and those from others with far more experience than I have- stay tuned.

Here is the link to RSVP for the show: Wednesday July 14th 8:00 EST

http://www.vokle.com/lineups/5453-wheres-your-book

How the whole thing came about:

I asked, you responded and the rest is history! So many of you have told me about your desire to start a book, finish your book, or better yet- you have always wanted to write a book!

After speaking with some of you and getting a feel for what you needed from me (an affordable and feasible plan to move your literary work into the limelight) in other words- kick your butt to keep you on track!!

I have decided to offer an affordable web class series- two 30 minute sessions a month for one year at $99 a  month.

If I did it, so can you! I am far from the expert- but I sure wish I had someone to mentor me along the way. It would have saved me time and money- so I will impart to you what I have learned the hard way:)

Once we establish your reason for writing the book and what has kept you stuck from moving forward- then we can get somewhere:)

So I hope you will consider joining me  and start your own book tour sooner than later!

Happiness and Success Always,

Sherry

If only I knew THEN, what I KNOW now!

July 3rd, 2010 by Sherry Sexton

I recently realized that my business will turn 3 on July 12th, celebrating MY independence from the corporate world. It seemed like the perfect time to share some of what I have learned. I don’t claim to be the expert, well maybe in some things, like knowing what not to do!

Being a women entrepreneur starting out as we were heading into some rough economic times, in retrospect, nothing could have stopped me. I had the passion and persistence (maybe a bit of ignorance as well) to take on the world. What a roller coaster ride it has been! The best, however, are all of the challenges, or should we call them learning experiences- which turned out to be the greatest benefit I can offer my clients.

Let’s see, what can I tell you that I will not have to change any names to protect the innocence? Remember what I just stated about being a bit ignorance, forget it, I was just plain clueless in so many ways. Gullible, oh my! I probably would have bought ice from an Eskimo in the beginning if they (whoever they were at the time) thought it was good business idea. My problem, I trusted everyone! I still trust most people but have learned to do some investigation first.

Best example: My first logo design which included my fancy letterhead stationery and envelopes- who really cared, along with my tri-fold brochure – I just had to be different!!- would have allowed me to lease a Lexus- the first few payments at least:)

In regards to being different, anyone who knows me would say I already am different- simply by being me!

When I received my first company credit card, it was official! Charge away- all for the business, right? – new clothes, new shoes, included- the girls get it!! If someone would have slapped me upside the head at that point- it may or may not have gotten my attention. Remember when you were little and you felt invincible, well it was kinda like that.

However, I knew I needed a coach to guide me, hired many during my early journey, which was of great benefit in more than one way. It helped me to determine how I would coach others, how much I would share and how REAL I would be with them. I developed my own individual style which still fits me today- fast and furious! I have been called many things- a rocket launcher, a GPS system, the crazy coach who jumps through flaming hoops and talks to her clients at 2:00 am- as well as a few others I will not mention.

Do I still make mistakes, of course, I never want to be perfect- it would be too lonely:)

Being my own boss, working in my pajamas if I like and working the hours I want to, wherever and whenever- makes it all worthwhile!!!

Well enough about me, it’s all about you and your continued success!

Have a great July 4th!

Best- Sherry

An update on Mom Corps, compliments of Allison O’ Kelly

Mom Corps Opens its First 10 Franchises in Less than a Year – Mom Corps announced today the opening of four more franchises, marking major success and incredible growth in the company during the past year while so many businesses still struggle to survive. Most recently, Mom Corps added offices in Austin, Akron, Minneapolis, and Seattle. Mom Corps has continued to grow despite the recessionary climate. CEO, Allison O’Kelly says while companies are still not yet ready to hire a slew of permanent employees, they are strategically hiring temps/contractors for their businesses. She adds that Mom Corps’ clients are really seeing the value in hiring experienced professionals on a project basis. In the past year, Mom Corps also established franchises in Miami, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Charlotte and Northern Virginia, in addition to their online web presence and existing corporate office in Boston. Mom Corps, founded in July 2005, provides professionals with tools and information to evaluate their career choices. Here is an update on what’s happening in the world of greeting cards, fitness and fun in Seattle from Maria Millsap

I’m continuing to grow Banana Blossom Press as we get into more retail stores in the Pacific Northwest, sponsor more events and continue to get involved in more running and walking events. My pursuit of always finding new fitness adventures and connecting with people in the fitness and exercise world inspired me to start a blog, Hills and Hammies, http://www.hillsandhammies.com. It’s a place to share my explorations and observations of what makes me sweat-happy in my city. The places to eat (healthy and otherwise), fitness related gadgets, activewear and people. I feature Seattle-area women and men who truly enjoy and take advantage of being fit. They run, walk, bike, swim ,climb, skip and jump. They’re athletes and I love that they love to sweat. In continuing with this theme, I am also currently working on organizing an expo featuring 50-75 local businesses representing different fitness activities under one roof. It will be scheduled sometime in early Spring of 2011. Imagine exploring and talking with experts about yoga, rowing,pole-dancing, boot camp, trapeze, running, double-dutch, biking, martial arts and others in a safe and fun environment. It’s the time of year where most people are starting to think about getting in shape for Spring and Summer. We will offer to the community information and a taste if you will, a myriad of activities to explore, all of which are great ways to get in shape. I get bored very easily with exercise and I am always in pursuit of new and fun ways to get my heart pumping. I thought it would be a fantastic idea to have all of these exciting choices available in one place.

I definitely have The T-Shirt to Prove it! It maybe a little sweaty, but

we love to sweat!

Thanks to Abby Albaum- Happy Hooping!

UPDATE: Compliments of Heather Lambie
It’s been a few months since my submission to The T-Shirt to Prove It, and just as I suspected, business has picked up. Further, I have come to some conclusions about how I’m positioning myself within my industry and how I’m keeping it all fresh.  I have written an organizing book of my own and am shopping it out to agents right now. I’ve also developed a fantastic organizing product that has a patent pending and I’m in the process of shopping out the licensing for it.  All great things!
I still love the coaching aspect of my job, as in helping women get to the root of their clutter through workshops and blogs, so if anyone has any clutter questions they’d like answered, I’d love to help. Please email me at heather@yourhomeeditor.com or contact me through Sherry’s Facebook page and please read my blog on www.OnlineOrganizing.com.  I look forward to helping you! Heather Lambie

Moving into 2010, what changes have you made in the way you conduct your business?

January 23rd, 2010 by Sherry Sexton

For me, changes needed to be made, from the way I showed up as a business owner to the way I reached out to clients. In 2010, I decided a new look was in order and basically relaunched Imagine Coaching and Sherry Sexton. They both needed to reflect who I am(or better yet, how I’ve grown). In other words, the outside needed to match the inside. My desire was to work only with women entrepreneurs- so I do!  I wanted my look to be edgy and bold, realizing that many business owners wanted the brutal honesty that I could offer and they could benefit by- so I changed it! Reaching clients through social media has proven to be a great vehicle for reaching out to let others get to know you- so I am learning, slowly! Strategically partnering with other business owners has proven to be a WIN-WIN- s0 I am continuing to pursue those relationships! People are cautious about how, where and with whom they spent their money- so I am inviting potential clients to coffee to see if we are a good fit! Please share any strategies you have found to be useful moving forward in 2010, as always THANKS for your input!
